As your pet enters the adjustable range of the Electronic SmartDoor, The SmartKey transmits a signal so that the SmartDoor "detects" the SmartKey and unlocks automatically - much like your car unlocks when you press the "open" button on your transmitter. The range is adjustable up to 3 feet (fast-moving pets need 3 feet, slower pets can have a shorter range to be sure no other animals slip in with them)

After your pet passes through the Electronic SmartDoor, the door will lock automatically.

Radio Frequency key does not require line of sight direction. As long as your pet is in the range you have selected, the door opens. Collar key works even if obstructed by dirt.
